Description

With this black-figured Corinthian Hydria

with a cloverleaf-like pouring opening you can see alternately cocks, lions and antelopes on the main ornamental band, a single tab is shown just below the pourer, while an owl is shown as a counterpart on the back side just below the handle.

On the upper ornamental ribbon is a pair of waterfowl, flanked by two lions.

The Hydria is dated 550 BC and is an exhibit of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. The hand-painted replica is the original size.

A seal on the handle bears the inscription "MUSEUM COPY", reverse side "HAND MADE IN GREECE".
