Athena's head in the form of a ritual vessel

This unusual vessel was evidently used in religious ceremonies.
It clearly depicts the goddess of wisdom Athena, recognisable by the retracted
battle helmet. Above it she wears a kind of protruding bonnet. Behind her head is a
handle that leads into a small spout. Her neck is adorned with a
three-row necklace.
This imaginative version of head vessels was first recorded in the 7th century BC in
Greece and developed into its own genre of artwork,
whose diversity still amazes us today, for example in Janus-faced vessels, i.e.
different faces on the front and back.
