Here you can see the extremely rare representation of a male Tanagra statuette. The messenger of the gods Hermes is reproduced with one of his symbols, a cock. This symbolises the victory of the day over night with his behaviour of the crow at dawn. Actually, only female Tanagra figures were made.
The small sculptures were used as talismans and toys and were placed in the grave of the young women after - mostly early - death.
Replica corresponds in size and material - terracotta - to the original. Dates back to the 4th century B.C.
