Original illustration minoan cup with handle
Minoan cup with handle from the Knossos palace in Crete, 1.500-1.450 B.C., in the Archaeological Museum of Iraklion

The decoration of this cup was applied in the independent palatial style of Minoan vases, in this case the main motif resembles sea waves with a "flotsam" in the middle in the form of a dot.
The strongly tapering hull meets a flame-tongue-like decorated footstand.
The wide, uncomfortable drinking rim suggests a ritual vessel rather than a daily object of use.
The original is made of fired clay.

Scale replica hand-painted. A seal on the handle bears the inscription "MUSEUM COPY", backside "HAND MADE IN GREECE".
